Full halls of exhibitors and crowds of visitors, i.e. Career Day at WSEI University in Lublin

More than 40 exhibitors with offers of jobs, internships, apprenticeships or volunteering, crowds of visitors and a queue of those willing to take free tests. This was the Career Day at WSEI University, which the University organised together with the Municipal Employment Office in Lublin.

The Career Day was organised by our University for the first time and, as emphasised by the exhibitors and visitors themselves, it was a great success.

- I currently have a job, but my friends and I visited the exhibitors‘ stands and browsed the offers, because it is worth looking at other perspectives for development - said Oliwia, a Psychology student. - Such an event broadens horizons.

She came to the Career Day with her fellow students, who also liked the event: - It is worth organising such a Career Day. It can encourage many people to look at job offers - commented the Psychology students.

All the guests and exhibitors were welcomed by Dr Mariusz Paździor, Professor at WSEI University, Vice-Rector for Education and Student Affairs: - I am extremely pleased that you are hosted within the walls of our University. The exchange of experiences regarding the labour market, labour market trends, is extremely interesting and inspiring. We provide education in 25 fields of study with a practical profile, the aim of which is to focus on the needs of employers. This cooperation, this synergy between labour market institutions and universities, can bring us closer to this effect in the form of a good educational offer and good graduates -stressed the Vice-Rector. - I wish everyone a fruitful experience during this event.

The Director of the Municipal Employment Office in Lublin, Katarzyna Kępa added: - Thank you that employers are here today and that they are committed to the young people of Lublin. We thank the University for their cooperation. We also thank the young people for wanting to take advantage of our advice. We have many suggestions for you and employers have many job offers. Take advantage of this, because this is the only opportunity where we can meet in such a group. We wish that a fascinating career for a young person is born out of this day. Today you can start building that career - she encouraged.

Over 40 exhibitors

The Career Day at WSEI University was attended by companies, institutions, offices and foundations from all over the Lublin Voivodeship. Their stands had, among others, Regional Police Headquarters in Lublin, Internal Security Agency, National Labour Inspectorate, Municipal Guard of Lublin, Nadbużański Oddział Straży Granicznej (Border Guard Unit), Military Police, Social Insurance Institution (ZUS), Agricultural Social Insurance Fund (Kasa Rolniczego Ubezpieczenia Społecznego), State Fund for Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons (PFRON), Labour Offices, the Chamber of Fiscal Administration, the Provincial Club of Technology and Rationalisation, Fuga Mundi Foundation, Heros and OIC Poland, companies - ‘Bogdanka’, ‘Pszczółka’, Stokrotka, Żabka, Rohlig SUUS Logistics, Infinite, Lift Service, Assa, Biocent, Concentrix, Consultor and many others.

The Career Day was an opportunity to talk to representatives of companies, institutions, offices or foundations about employment opportunities, internships, apprenticeships or volunteering. In turn, exhibitors were able to present their activities and recruit new employees and co-workers.

- Lubelski Węgiel 'Bogdanka' is one of the largest employers in the Lublin region, with over 5 thousand employees. We decided that the Career Day is a good opportunity to present our company to young people. The cross-section of employees we need is very wide - they are production workers, administrative staff, IT department employees, therefore the scope in which WSEI University educates its students is the most necessary for us to find potential employees - explains Joanna Wielgosz, acting Head of the Employee Development Department at the Lublin-based Bogdanka' mine. She adds: - We want to show that our company is not only about the coal mine and the people who work underground, but also about employees from various industries - economists, financiers, they will also find employment with us.

- Young people today ask about current recruitment, what the job looks like in ‘Bogdanka’, how they can apply to us - emphasises Joanna Wielgosz.

The Shelter for Homeless Animals in Lublin also had its stand, together with its four-legged charges.

- We take part in this event because we want to promote animal adoption, but we also encourage people to work and volunteer at the shelter. There is a lot of interest in volunteering among young people, work a little less so - says Beata Niedźwiadek, an employee at the shelter office.

Career Day with free examinations

Career Day visitors were also able to take advantage of free preventive examinations. Students of the Scientific Circle at WSEI University's Monoprofile Medical Simulation Centre performed blood pressure, sugar, cholesterol and uric acid measurements, as well as spirometry, body composition analysis and ECG tests.

There was a queue to the stand where the tests were carried out every now and then.

- I was doubly surprised. Firstly, the number of people willing to take part in the tests we are carrying out today and, secondly, what comes out in these tests, namely elevated uric acid levels, elevated cholesterol levels in slim people and major cardiac arrhythmias. This shows that we do not examine ourselves, which is why actions such as today's are very much needed - emphasises Mariusz Sutryk, M.Sc., the Circle's supervisor and deputy director of the Monoprofile Medical Simulation Centre at WSEI University.

Not only students, but also exhibitors took advantage of the tests, including Maria Bil, Head of the Records Office at the Agricultural Social Insurance Fund in Lublin: - Yesterday I felt a bit unwell, so I decided to take advantage of the examination package today, on the occasion of this event, and also do an ECG.

In her opinion, the Career Day at WSEI University is a great success: - We are establishing new relationships, gaining contacts also between offices and institutions, because we do not meet every day. This is to everyone's benefit - she believes. - For us as exhibitors, the Career Day is an opportunity to promote prevention with regard to accidents and dangerous situations on farms, but we also want to recruit candidates for apprenticeships and traineeships, because our workload is growing. We need apprentices, trainees to help us with arranging and filing documents, transferring files. There is a lot of work for us.

She likes the organisation of the Career Day at our University very much: - This event is done with a lot of flair, I am impressed. It's a big deal and that's why I'm happy to be here - assesses Maria Bil.

Anna Augustyniak, Deputy Mayor of the City of Lublin, who had previously visited the stands of all the exhibitors, also took advantage of the research.

- This type of action is very much needed. We need to help the young generation to choose their profession. After leaving school, this young generation doesn't really know what interests them, they feel lost in the online world. And days like Career Day, where a young person can talk to job agents, to institutions is very helpful. It can give that person a clue as to how to direct his or her future, because although these young people are enjoying their freedom for the time being, they already need to get used to thinking about their future - concluded President Anna Augustyniak.

Thank you all for participating in our Career Day!
